That was 10th August 2015. Lakhs of people were waiting in live and millions in TVs for one big announcement. Google is going to announce its 3rd CEO. Four tech magicians are on the stage competing for the post of GOOGLE’s CEO. Larry Page, the co-founder of Google came and announced the Google new CEO naming SUNDAR PICHAI. A goosebump moment for the Indians. A lower middle-class Indian became CEO for billion dollar company on that day.
Birth and study:
Pichai Sundar Rajan was born on 12th July 1972 in Madurai, Tamilnadu state in India. His father was an electrical engineer and his mother was a stenographer. His father had to save three years to buy a scooter. But never hesitate to give a good education to his two sons. Sundar Rajan used to remember all the phone numbers at the age of 12 itself. In his +2 level, Sundar was attracted by the technology. He got admission in Metallurgy department in IIT, Kharagpur. He completed his graduation over there. His passion for completing master’s in Stanford was obstructed by his financial position. But the man Regunathan Pichai, father of Sundar decided to send him the United States. He invested more than his annual income and sent him to the California in 1993. Their Sundar completed his M.S from Stanford University and MBA from the Wharton University of Pennsylvania.
Anjali, Sundar’s classmate in IIT, Kharagpur. Both were doing their bachelor’s in metallurgy. Initially, they were friends, by as time was passing, they became very close. The gap between them was reducing day by day. In the final year, Sundar proposed Anjali and immediately she said ok.
But it was very difficult for them to manage the situation as Sundar was leaving to the USA for his master’s. At that time there was no smartphones and Sundar’s financial position not supported him to call her from the USA. as a result, there was no single word between them for 6 long months. Later Anjali also left for the USA.
Sundar started his job with a semiconductor manufacturer company called Mckinsey & group, California. After securing a permanent job, they decided to start their life together. Sundar married Anjali.
Life at GOOGLE:
In 2004, Sundar entered in google and his major contribution was introducing a free email service from Google i.e GMAIL in his first year itself. But his major situation was when Microsoft replaced internet explorer with its new search engine BING. Google search was getting down and Sundar took its responsibility and started google toolbar on the browser for the quick access. But it was not that much effective. Then he planned to launch google’s own browser. But he struggled to get permission from its CEO, Eric Schmidt. He convinced Larry page and Sergey Brin, co-founders of Google to launch Google Chrome in 2008. It was a huge success at that time. The whole world started browsing through Chrome and Sundar became an international figure with that.
He became vice president of product development department. And in 2012, he became sr.vice president of Chrome and apps. Later on, he took over charge on Android from Andy Rubin. In 2014, he promoted as the Head of Products, elevated himself as the public face of Google. He was maintaining apps, Google store, ads, and maps.
Once Twitter approached Sundar to be their vice president of products and later with the proposal to make him their CEO. He got a proposal from Microsoft also to become their CEO. But he gently rejected the offer and continued as the loyal Google employee. On the 10th August 2015, on the big screen, he took charge as the Chief Executive Officer for GOOGLE.
